FOOD OVER MEDICINE CLUB (Free)!
Our free Food Over Medicine Club has started! We meet on the third Tuesday of each month to support each other in a healthy lifestyle and have learning opportunities, food tastings, book talks, and more! Our November gathering is for members only! THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS ARE BEING OFFERED AT CUYAHOGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE- PARMA CAMPUS
Tri-C offers special interest programs as a part of their Encore55+ Program. Each program is seven weeks long and each Friday session is 50 minutes in length. Registration and program descriptions can be found on the Tri-C website.
Winter session runs from January 24- March 7, 2025. I am teaching Food Over Medicine at 11:00 am and Smart Shopping For Health at 12:00 pm.

Monthly Newsletter: On the first of each month, you will be sent a content filled newsletter. You have access to evidence based information through a referenced article, as well as recipes and lifestyle tips to support your journey towards optimal health. In addition, it will list upcoming learning opportunities for you to participate in. Subscribe/sign up at the bottom of the web page to be added to the email list.
Introductory Workshops: Join me for a one hour enlightening workshop with time included for a lively discussion about diet and health. Each workshop is centered upon solid research regarding diet and lifestyle and is certain to challenge some of your current beliefs. Bring your family and friends to the free opportunity.
Introduction to Optimal Eating: Introductory Workshop: Are you ready to take control of your health? Do you want to know how food plays a role in your overall well-being? Are you wondering where to begin? During this class you will get an overview of the optimal eating pattern and the evidence supporting it, ideas for meals, what it means to be an informed consumer, and resources to assist you on your journey. Since there is no magic food to improve health, by doing the work, in time you will see the benefits and have the physical energy to live your best life.
You Tube Channel: Educational videos are posted on the Empowering True Health You Tube Channel. These are short and informative, focusing on a specific food related topic. Check them out and subscribe to the channel.
Facebook and LinkedIn Posts: Follow Empowering True Health on Facebook and/or LinkedIn. Get inspired for the week with Motivation Monday posts, keep up to date on What’s Up Wednesdays, and get food info as a part of Food on Friday posts.
EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS
Each workshop will allow you to study and discuss a single topic in-depth to discover keys to optimal health through sound evidence and research instead of stories and advertising. You will come away with the knowledge you need to be empowered to take control of your health and make informed decisions that are best for you.
*Food Over Medicine Part 1 and 2: Reducing the amount of time you are sick, building a strong immune system, eliminating the causes of disease, and obtaining optimal health beyond good test results are all possible for you without the use of medication. Discover how through this eye opening workshop that focuses upon the benefits of eating a whole food plant based diet. In addition, you will find that this approach is less expensive than traditional medical care. Each class is two hours in length.
*Live Long Live Well: Do you want to live to 100? Do you want to have a long “health span?” During this class you will look at the populations where this is the norm to see what habits influence this outcome. Then you will learn to apply them to your life. You will leave with information that can reduce your risk of disease and enable you to live a long life outside of a care home. One session 2 hours in length.
*Path to True Health and Weight Loss: Are you a yo-yo dieter? Are you quick to try the newest fad diet? Did you lose weight only to gain it back? In this class you will look at why this happens. You will shift your focus from weight loss to health and learn how to lose weight in a manner that is sustainable and health promoting. One two hour session.
*Path to True Health and Weight Loss Support Session: Do you need encouragement to stick with the whole food plant-based eating pattern? After attending the class, Path to True Health and Weight Loss, join to get the support you need. Each session will focus on answering questions, addressing road blocks and creating a community of like minded people.
*Winning Choices For Women’s Health: How do your food choices affect hormones and bone health? What foods are best for your body? During this class you will learn about the optimum diet for humans and its affects on your health. You will discover a way to take control of your overall health while having a positive effect on women’s health issues so many people are faced with. Be ready to hear another side of the story. One hour session.
*Why AM I Eating Protein?: Why is protein so dominant in food advertising? How do our bodies use protein? What are the true effects of protein on our health? During this workshop we will answer these questions through the use of solid, well conducted research findings. In addition, we will explore sources of protein, whether or not you can eat too much protein, and how protein fits into a diet resulting in optimal health and fitness. This workshop is certain to challenge some of your current beliefs regarding true health and inspire you to look at nutrition from a new perspective. This workshop is 1- two hour session.
*Get Started: Are you ready to transition to a whole food plant-based eating pattern but aren’t sure how to begin? This multi session program will take you through the journey from meal planning, pantry purging, shopping, social eating, changing habits, and addressing barriers to success. Find the support you need to make permanent lifestyle changes. Six one-hour sessions.
*Health or Hurt: What health information should you believe? Join us for an interactive session learning whether the marketing phrases we hear actually help or hurt our health. Be prepared to be surprised! One hour session.
*Heart Disease: Heart disease is one of the leading killers in the United States. You don’t have to be a statistic. Discover the risks and benefits of traditional treatment and the use of food. You will take away powerful knowledge to help you make informed decisions as well as meal ideas to use as a part of a whole food plant-based eating pattern. One two hour session.
*Diabetes: You can do more than manage diabetes. Find out how the optimal diet can address its cause and improve your health.
*Cancer: Breast and Prostate: What in the food we eat plays a role in cancer development? Find out how the optimal diet can lower one risk factor for breast and prostate cancer.
*Getting Started With Plant-Based Eating: Changing the way you eat can be difficult. You ask yourself where do I begin? After a short introduction to why plant-based is beneficial for your health, you will learn practical information to assist you on this journey. Setting up your environment for success, meal planning, and menu ideas and resources will all be covered. One two hour session.
*Women’s Health: Before Menopause: PMS, acne, and reproductive issues are common in women. Find out which foods contribute negatively, and which can have positive effects on reproductive health. One two hour session.
*Women’s Health: Menopause and Beyond: Strong bones and few hot flashes! Learn the role that food plays at this stage of life and make your friends jealous when you are not dealing with the common conditions of aging.
*Strong Immune System: Diet and lifestyle choices affect your immune system. Learn what you can do to strengthen yours and reduce your risk of illness.
INDIVIDUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
*Personal Health Sessions: In these sessions it is all about you! The goal is to work together by looking at you as a whole person to improve your overall well-being. Using proven research connected to your individual needs, you will become empowered and inspired to take control of your health and make decisions that are best for you, no matter where you may be along the path of wellness, so that you can feel good living life to its fullest. An initial one hour session begins your journey which is followed up with 45 minute sessions.
Key components include:
*completing a comprehensive health questionnaire
*creating and implementing an individual health plan
*food journaling
*meal planning based upon whole food plant based diet
*developing new habits and patterns of eating and cooking
*creating strategies for situational eating such as work lunches, parties, holidays, etc.
*sharing evidence and sound research on diet and lifestyle choices and incorporating that into the individual health plan

*Adventures in the Aisles: We will roam the aisles at the store where you shop for food, with the goal of making you comfortable buying foods to support good health. You will learn where foods are located within the store that are a part of a whole food plant based diet, how to choose fresh fruits and vegetables, what different foods are that you are not familiar with, how to read labels, and which aisles can sabotage your quest for health. Specific questions or needs that you have will be addressed. Session is 90 minutes in length.
